Is it possible to cook corn on the cob over the campfire? You betcha.
Pack up the kids, grab a bag of corn from a local farm stand, and look forward to a delicious and healthy dinner alongside your RV.
It's super easy to add corn on the cob to your campfire food menu. All of these recipes require about five minutes of prep time and between five and twenty minutes to cook. None of them are complicated or demand rare and bulky spices.
Roasted Corn on an Open Campfire
Perhaps the easiest way to include corn in your camping menu is to roast it on the coals of your evening fire.
If you forget to take it out on time, soaking it beforehand will help it not burn right away.
Street Corn on the Grill
Make your own food truck treat while tailgating!
Shuck your corn. Season it with your favourite herbs and spices. Add a little butter or baste with seasoned oil.
Fire up the barbeque and when the grill is nice and hot, drop the cobs. Turn the corn periodically so that all sides get a little colour from the open flame. The kernels may start to blister, but that dark colour is full of flavour.
Top with a little crumbled cheese, a shot of hot sauce, or more butter!
Take Your Time Corn on a Stick
It is possible to cook a cob of corn just like roasting a marshmallow. It takes some muscle to get the skewer through the cob, but the kids will have fun toasting their supper.
This will take the longest time as all the heat in a fire is down at the coals, but it's a fun memory!
Boiled Corn on the Cob Every Time
Are you thinking about nibbling on a traditional piece of corn hot out of a steaming pot? Whether you are cooking inside the RV, on a propane-fired grill, or over a wood fire, it still works.
Get out the giant pot that you bring along for lobster boils and fill it up with water. Add a good dash of salt. Pop it over the fire.
While the water is heating up, sit down and shuck your corn. Add it to the pot as you go. It only takes five or six minutes at a boil to cook. However, the corn will remain hot and delicious for an hour or two while sitting in the water after you take it off the fire.
