Meet the Experts: Marine Insurance with Madison Anstett

A person with long hair stands on a dock talking about marine insurance. They’re smiling and wearing a beige sweater while several boats are docked behind them.

Recently, we had the chance to visit with Orbit marine insurance expert Madison Anstett at the marina where she docks her boat. With nearly a decade of marine insurance experience, Madison is a licensed insurance broker and lifetime boater.

Being a marine insurance specialist takes a combination of experience and a love of being on the water

Orbit: Hi Madison, thanks for inviting us to the marina today—it’s an exciting place to be. We appreciate you taking the time to share some of your expertise with us. Let’s dive in!

At Orbit, we revolve around the needs of our clients with expert insurance brokers who specialize in different areas like boat & marine insurance, collector car insurance, motorcycle insurance and RV insurance.

What makes you an expert in marine insurance?

Madison Anstett: I practically grew up on the water. My whole family has been in the marine industry as long as I can remember.

My grandpa owned a marina throughout my childhood. My dad sold boats when I was a kid. Now, he manages the marina we're doing this interview at.

My background has given me a deep understanding and passion for the marine industry. It’s what truly makes me a marine insurance expert.

Orbit: How long have you been with Orbit?

MA: I've been working in insurance for over nine years now. I came to Orbit when they acquired the marine insurance brokerage that I’d been working for at the time.

Orbit’s a new name for a whole group of Canadian companies that have been around for decades. Now, together as Orbit, like you mentioned, we’re able to offer our clients expertise in so many different types of specialty insurance.

“I make sure our clients get the best marine insurance coverage for their specific needs.” – Madison Anstett, marine insurance expert

Orbit: Exactly! So, when it comes to marine insurance, what types of boats do you help find coverage for?

MA: I assist clients in finding the ideal watercraft insurance for a wide variety of boats.

Whether it's fishing boats, pontoon boats, personal watercrafts, cruisers—any of the many types of marine vessels and personal watercraft that we specialize in—I make sure our clients get the best marine insurance coverage for their specific needs.

Orbit: What’s your favourite thing about working with clients?

MA: My favourite part about working with clients is the excitement they bring when they call, having just purchased their boat. It's always a happy, light conversation.

I connect with clients easily because I've spent a lot of time on the water myself. I’ve driven and owned many different types of boats. I relate to my clients. I truly understand their needs and know about the vessels they're looking to get coverage for.

Orbit: Why do you think your clients feel safe with Orbit for their marine insurance?

MA: Clients feel secure with Orbit because we offer excellent coverage.

They have a broker that they can rely on. Someone they can speak to, whether it's to file a claim or discuss and make changes to their policy.

We help make sure they're good to go on the water and that feel safe doing it.

Orbit: Fantastic! Thanks, Madison. Before we go, is there anything else that you’d like to share with our readers?

MA:  Yes! Boating season is here, so I wanted to share the five most important things you can do to keep yourself and others safe on the water.

  1. Always wear a lifejacket.
  2. Stay sober.
  3. Be prepared by checking your boat’s mechanical systems and having emergency supplies on board.
  4. If you haven’t already, take a safe boating course.
  5. Always check your local weather and wind forecast for the day.

Stay safe and have fun!
